Myth tells us that Venus possessed a belt capable of enchanting anyone, even those with neither beauty nor charm. All they had to do was wear it. Benedetta spent nearly three months sitting on the sofa in her living room, wrapped in metal mesh. “The shape emerged slowly,” she says. “As if the material itself were guiding me. A silent dialogue between my hands and its rebellious nature.” Our seamstresses sew each belt by hand, crystal by crystal, onto a silk base. Some work at the kitchen table, with the television on and their children coming home from school; others in the warm light of the Bottega in Viterbo. It is the same gesture once repeated by the women here who knitted for the great fashion houses: patient, precise, inherited. Every Venus Belt is different from the next, because no hand ever repeats the exact same gesture twice.

You were about to go out wearing your usual jeans and the T-shirt that makes you feel like yourself. Then you saw the belt resting on the edge of the bed. Two seconds. One gesture.
